Mission: The First Step...
Location: Outside the Banquet Hall
Timeline: 2388/08/26 1905 (August 26 2388 7:05pm)Same time as Banquet

Gwen just stood for a few moments in the silence of outside. She could hear the laughter etc coming from inside the banquet. She would join them soon but for now she just needed a moment. She glanced up at a nearby tree and smiled, laying a hand upon its rough bark. Remembering when she would be the intrepid explorer as her parents would dig in the dirt. Her friends imaginary. She looked around again just to make sure she was alone, then with a smile that could only be described as vaguely mischievous, she then carefully climbed it in a quiet, dark spot. She sat there on a branch, leaning against the trunk, looking up at the stars. Her mind going over the nights events as she internalized it in her own, quiet way.

Gwen looked up into the dark sky and remembered. Not just the cadets who served before but the members of her family who had served in some of the worst places in the world so that their loved ones would be safe. In the late 1800's members of her family served in the Earth United Kingdom's First Welsh Rifles, as she remembered that. She recalled the song they would sing. The weight of history weighed heavily as she recalled the words. There was so much emotion within that she didn't know quite how to express, so she did the only thing she could think of. She gave her emotions a voice through a song of her people.

OOC: This is a guy but to give you an idea on how this sounds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Fy3tSim3to

First she spoke softly,

?Here's fourteen shillings on the drum
For those who'll volunteer to come
To list and fight the foe today
Over the hills and far away

O'er the hills and o'er the main
To Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away?

Her voice was gentle and full of emotion flowed into the night, a soft counter point to the excitement going on inside as she began to sing. Her voice hauntingly beautiful as it carried softly into the night.

?Through smoke and fire and shot and shell
Unto the very walls of hell
We shall stand and we shall stay
Over the hills and far away

O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away

Now though I travel far to Spain
A part of me shall still remain
For you are with me night and day
*And* over the hills and far away

O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away?

Her voice in a cresting wave of emotion that strode on determined...

?So fall in lads behind the drum
With Colours blazing like the sun
Along the road to come-what-may
Over the hills and far away

?O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away

When evil stalks upon the land
I'll nyther hold nor stay me' hand
But fight to win a better day
Over the hills and far away

O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away

If I should fall to rise no more
As many comrades did before
Ask the pipes and drums to play
Over the hills and far away

O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away

Let Kings and tyrants come and go
I'll stand ajudged by what I know
A soldier's life I'll ne'er gainsay
Over the hills and far away

O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away

O'er the hills and o'er the main
Through Flanders, Portugal and Spain
King George commands and we obey
Over the hills and far away?

Her voice faded into the suddenly loud silence. For a long time she didn't move until finally, again in silence, she climbed down and headed in.
